Mental health is such an important topic that mainstream media tends to ignore. It’s considered a touchy topic too many. In our society we tend to block out anything involved with mental health. We look down upon it. If someone has depression or is suicidal it is looked as if the person is seeking attention. But it’s much deeper than that. Mental health needs to be talked about more than it is. We need people to be open to the subject and ways to help others. Many of people suffer from a form of mental illness.

This performance was such an important milestone. The song 1-800-273-8255 by Logic, is a song about suicide. The title of the song is the suicidal hotline. There were 50 people on that stage who have attempted suicide or has loss their lives  Everyone was wearing T-shirts with the hotlines number on it. The reason why this is so important is because he performed this on a national stage. Millions of people were watching. So many people heard the song, watched his speech. They heard his message. His performance  "helped drive a 50% spike in call volume to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the hours following the show" according to a statement from MTV.

His message:“I just want to take a moment right now, and thank you all so much for giving me a platform to talk about something, that mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about, mental health anxiety, suicide, depression and so much more that I talk about on this album from racism, discrimination, sexism domestic abuse, sexual assault and so much more.

I don’t give a damn if you’re black, white or any color in between I don’t care if you’re Christian, you’re Muslim you’re gay or straight. I’m here to fight for your equality cause I believe we are all born equal but we are not treated equally and that is why we must fight we must fight to the equality of every man, women, child regardless of their race, religion, creed, sexual orientation. So I say here and now if you believe in this message my message of peace, love and positivity, equality for all then I demand you rise to your feet and applaud not only for yourself but the foundation we are laying for our children.”

Logic & Alessia Cara, Khalid stunned the crowd at the VMAS this past year with their performance of their  hit song 1-800-273-8255.
